Kitesurf coaching

You can ride and you want to progress: jump higher, learn new tricks, gain style. Coaching saves you months. Three ways to make the most of it: on the water around Leucate, online wherever you are, or on a clinic abroad.

What is kitesurf coaching?

School lessons teach you to ride on your own. Coaching starts where lessons stop: you already ride upwind, you link your transitions, and you want to go further. A coach watches you on the water, films you, explains what is happening and builds a programme with you, so you progress far faster than riding alone.

Not independent yet? Start with lessons at the Kite Odyssey, then move on to coaching.

Who is it for? Three levels, one direction

  • Level 1 · Freeride — polish your basics and explore new ground: pop, toeside, blind, slides, foil, strapless.
  • Level 2 · Old School — build speed and amplitude, then add rotations, grabs, one foot and board off.
  • Level 3 · Big Air — preload pop, loops, new variations on your rotations and flying your kite in strong wind.

The minimum level: riding upwind and linking your transitions. You don't need to know how to jump.

What happens in a session?

A session lasts two hours, with four people at most. On the water, the coach guides you by radio and films you. On land, video analysis and theory show you what works and what to fix. You leave with your videos and a programme built around your goals, which you follow in your Onsightlab dashboard: goals, exercises and statistics.

FAQ

Kitesurf coaching questions

What level do I need for kitesurf coaching?

Riding upwind and linking your transitions. You don't need to know how to jump yet: jumps and tricks come next, from Level 1 (Freeride) to Level 3 (Big Air).

Is coaching useful if I don't want to jump?

Yes. Foil, strapless, toeside, blind or slides need no jumping at all. Coaching adapts to your goal, not only to the path towards Big Air.

What gear should I bring?

We recommend bringing your own kite, board, harness and bar, so you progress with your own reference points. A helmet and an impact vest are required.

Do I need a licence?

Yes: every rider must hold an FFVL licence, which covers you in case of an accident. You can take it out online from the booking page.

How long does it take to go from freeride to big air?

There is no set timeframe: it depends on how often you train, how you progress and how much risk you like to take. Some move fast, others prefer to consolidate each step.

How does online coaching work?

Everything happens on a one-hour video call: the coach goes through your videos with you, live — slow motion, annotations, comparison with professional riders — answers your questions and plans your next steps with you.
